The last obstacle before entering the UK go through Customs and Excise. It's really not very complicated as you follow a few simple rules.
It is also faster than you'd expect. European Union (EU) are three "channels" for customs processing. If you come from another EU country, whatever passport have, select the blue channel, once you have collected your luggage.
If you come from outside the EU, choose the Green channel - if you have nothing to declare on the basis of the allocations described below - or the red channel if you have goods in the tax-free allowance.
Everything is on an honor system. But note that if you do not occur often, can green by a spot check and blue channels, and the penalties for violating the law are steep arrested.
